The 7 steps to Successfully Create Your Consulting Practice'

All professionals and technicians who start their own consulting practice are experts in their chosen fields, but many are challenged to make it a long-term success. Often, we ‘fall into ‘having a consulting practice by the cards life deals us – our employer switches us to contractor status, we lose our job through takeovers and reorganisations or we get tired of the corporate or large firm environment.

Building a sustainable successful practice can be simple but it is not easy – until you know how. During this thought-provoking, interactive session, Bryan Worn will show you how to start, maintain and grow a successful practice. Having started and run different practices and businesses Bryan understands what it takes. He has given the number of talks at AiEA functions on topics related to this and the interest they have generated has prompted us to offer this half-day workshop.

    During this session you will:

    • Get clarity on your service offerings.
    • Identify your biggest concerns and possible roadblocks to developing your practice.
    • Develop your plan.
    • Learn how to evaluate your options for exit.
    • Establish criteria for dealing with the other stakeholders involved in your practice: your clients; your staff; and of course, your family.
    • Interact with colleagues who face the same dilemmas and choices that you have.

A workbook and morning tea will be supplied

    • “Bryan didn’t tell me what to do but rather worked with me to find what the real problem was, not just what I thought it was. Bryan was then there to give me the advice and tools to change what needed to be done. Bryan offered encouragement all through this process and he had such an in-depth knowledge of business processes and operations that I was very happy in accepting what he had to say.” Cathy Jones – Bantacs Accountants
    • “Having known Bryan for several years I engaged him to assist me in getting more focus and direction on my consulting business. Within a short time, he helped me to get clarity on who I should have as clients, pricing and everything I needed to ensure a successful professional consulting practice”. Alan Heiser – Goldcross Consulting

Negotiating and Structuring Solid Shareholder Agreements

A Shareholders Agreement is a written agreement between the shareholders or partners of a business. It covers the funding, structure, management and direction of the business and outlines the responsibilities and obligations of the business owners.

While the Corporations Act does not require companies to have a Shareholders Agreement, having one can be beneficial for setting ground rules about issues that affect shareholders, such as one shareholder deciding to sell their share later, where the conditions for doing so, have already been worked out in a signed Shareholder Agreement. The preferred agreements are those that have clear drafting and operate to resolve issues quickly with certainty and finality.

In his presentation, Ivan will discuss the major issues affecting shareholders and how these can be incorporated into a strong Shareholders Agreement to reduce the potential for conflict down the track.

Ivan is the Principal at Oshry Lawyers in Sydney. He is a senior M&A lawyer with a wide ranging corporate advisory experience and experience in dealing with local and international corporate commercial matters. Ivan specialises in the laws around corporate governance, mergers & acquisitions, private equity funding and international tax matters. He also advises on business strategy and  on matters relating to the use of Cryptocurrency and security token fundraising. Ivan has degrees from the University of Natal and the University of Witwatersrand in South Africa.

A light lunch will be served at 1pm and a cash bar will be operating. The presentation will commence at 1:30pm. Gentlemen are required to wear suit and tie, with ladies required to dress accordingly, (dress or slack suit).

UUSC is located at 25 Bent Street, Sydney 2000.
